Artist's Comments

After considering the topic "solitude" for the HDR club competition I decided to take pictures of a place I might like to go if I wished to find solitude. When I want solitude I often find myself wandering along a pier at a silly hour of the morning. This particular morning I was surprised to find that many other people had had the same idea. I decided to take photographs anyway not realising that even though there were many people walking along the pier, none of them were seen; none were still enough for long enough to leave a solid impression on the camera sensor.
I find it interesting that so often we do the same thing. We wonder along, face to the ground, not noticing all of the other lonely people who rush past us; moving too fast to leave a positive impression.

See [link] for metadata.

This shot is a HDR generated from one RAW long time exposure (exposure values were reduced from the original). White ballance was altered in camera raw prior to being tonemapped. It was then cropped and desaturated in Photoshop.

Gorgeous sky and composition! The flares a bit distraction and huge, but nice overall. :)

Thanks. I agree with you about the flares. Unfortunately, I stripped the metadata from this shot but it was actually a 180 something second time exposure and I couldn't figure how to lessen the flare without adversely affecting the rest of the shot. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

Ah, I see what you mean. I've done long exposures at night, and had similar problems. Oh well. It's a nice shot nonetheless.
